Course information

This course is suitable for anyone who would like to develop their knowledge and understanding of the diagnosis and management of coronary heart disease (CHD).

It covers risk factors, assessment, and acute and long-term management of CHD, including blood pressure and lipid management, through lifestyle and pharmacological interventions.

The course is built around case studies which help you to put theory into practice.

The course counts as 45 hours of CPD for your revalidation.

Course content

The focus of the course is on the prevention, diagnosis and management of acute and chronic coronary syndrome through an evidence-based approach, which includes pharmacological and lifestyle interventions.

This course encourages participants to approach the diagnosis and management of CHD in a person-focused and collaborative way in order to reduce the impact of CHD on quality of life and optimise the use of healthcare resources.

By the end of this course, learners should be able to:

  • Recognise the incidence and prevalence of CHD and the impact it has on individuals, society and the NHS
  • Determine the pathophysiological changes that lead to CHD
  • Identify people with, and at risk of, coronary heart disease
  • Implement evidence-based approaches to the prevention, diagnosis, and management of acute and chronic coronary syndrome
  • Assess the role of primary and secondary care in the diagnosis and management of CHD, to include physical and psychological wellbeing
