This session is available for everyone.

Grief is something we will all experience at some stage in our lives, and we never know when bereavement will strike. When it does, it can affect us all in very different, unexpected ways. Navigating it in our workplaces can be a real challenge for both managers and staff, which can lead to feelings of helplessness.

This is the third in a series of Grief Bitesizes which have been designed by expert Helen McMenamin, specifically for The West Yorkshire Primary Care Workforce & Training Hub. The series includes a delivery of an introductory session (2/12/25), then a specialist advice session for managers (24/3/26), and also one for employees (23/6/26).

This webinar will equip all staff – whether managers or employees – with the skills and knowledge to provide compassionate support to those grieving in their organisation. It’s run by grief expert and founder of the Flying Fish Company Helen McMenamin, and her session will cover:

  • The Words We Use to Talk About Grief: Are you aware of the outdated or hurtful words you may be using? Learn the language of compassion.
  • How We Minimise Grief: Recognise and avoid common phrases that unintentionally minimise a person’s grief
  • Grief in Different Cultures: Learn how different cultures and religions approach grief and bereavement. Understand cultural mourning rituals and embrace the diversity of grief.
  • Interactive Q&As: Do you have a question you’ve always wanted to ask on this topic? Find the answer here in a supportive, professional setting.
  • Full list of resources and contact information: Get further expert support now and in the future.
