Course information

It is estimated that there are 920,000 individuals living with chronic heart failure in the UK which amounts to around 1.6% of the population. Most healthcare professionals working in the adult sector are involved in the provision of care to this patient group. This update course is aimed at healthcare professionals with a working knowledge of the management of heart failure who wish to refresh their knowledge and skills. It is based on the latest available evidence and ensures the student is informed of current best practice and recent advances. You will be led through a series of topics to give you the opportunity to review and develop your current knowledge and skills. These will include ensuring an accurate diagnosis through to the rationale for the complex pharmacological and non-pharmacological management options. A carefully designed programme of presentations and guided activities will enhance your learning experience supported with opportunities to assess your progress with the use of the ‘knowledge check’ activities at the end of each section. The course has been developed by an experienced heart failure clinician dedicated to improving patient care through research and education. By participating in this course, you will enhance your knowledge and skills in heart failure management and strengthen the evidence-based care you provide to this patient group.

Course content

• Review knowledge on pathophysiology of CHF
• Identify best clinical practice in the diagnostic pathway in CHF
• Identify the main therapeutic options in managing CHF including the most recent landmark clinical trial results

 

• Pathophysiology of heart failure and implications on signs and symptoms and therapy options

• Diagnosing heart failure: Best practice

• Management of heart failure Part 1: Overview of treatment pathway of heart failure

• Management of heart failure part 2: recent landmark clinical trials

• Key issues in reviewing a person with heart failure
