Course information

This is a face-to-face session and will be delivered by members of the Skin Integrity Team from Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals.
The session will provide an understanding of the following:
  • Wound healing -recognising primary vs secondary intention
  • Delayed wound healing and the associated risk factors
  • Different wound types, diagnosis and categorisation
o   Pressure Ulcers
o   Incontinence associated dermatitis / moisture associated skin damage
o   Skin Tears
o   Traumatic injuries Problematic Surgical wounds
o   Burns
o   Weeping oedema
o   Weeping cellulitis
o   Leg Ulcers

o   Foot Ulcers

  • Wound Bed Preparation using TIMES
  • Wound cleansing and debridement
  • Wound Infection Continuum, including Biofilms
  • Wound microbiological sampling
  • Wound Assessment using TIMES
  • Anatomy and physiology of the circulatory, lymphatic system to the lower leg and foot
  • Leg ulcer definitions
  • Risk factors and Signs and symptoms of venous and arterial disease
  • Leg ulcer diagnosis, supported by a lower limb assessments
  • Role of compression therapy
  • Foot ulcer definitions
  • Foot and foot ulcer assessment, including footwear checks
  • Charcot foot and Osteomyelitis in the foot
  • Role of wound care products
