West Yorkshire Primary Care Workforce and Training Hub are holding virtual vaccination and immunisation update training courses. The course will be £50 per person, per session and held via Teams between 9.30am – 12.30pm.

Please note: Completion of the 2-day Foundation Vaccination and Immunisation training is required to attend this update.

This update is designed for registered healthcare professionals involved in immunisation programmes, including those requiring an annual update. It provides a review of both theory and practice for clinicians delivering or advising on immunisations in the workplace.

The sessions align with the National Minimum Standards and Core Curriculum for Immunisation Training for Registered Healthcare Professionals and are based on guidance from the UKHSA Green Book: Immunisation Against Infectious Disease.

Session topics include:

1. The aims of vaccination, national vaccine policy and schedules

2. The immune response to vaccines and how vaccines work

3. Vaccine preventable diseases

4. The different types of vaccines, their composition and their indications and contraindications

5. Current issues in vaccination

6. Communicating with patients, parents and carers about vaccines

7. Legal issues as applied to vaccination: consent and legal mechanisms to supply and administer vaccines

8. Storage and handling of vaccines
