REMINDER + SPRING UPDATES: CPD Funded Training 2024/25 - For Nurses, NAs & AHPs

Lots of funded training still available – book now!

CPD Funded offers continue to be available to access for eligible individuals (nurses, nursing associates, and allied health professionals), in general practice in Humber and North Yorkshire.

From Spring 2025 in line with budget review we are pleased to share that we have been able to include updates as indicated may be possible in the initial offer. The fair-share limits on the number of courses that can be accessed within the offer have been able to be expanded. For those who missed the first round of NB Plus enrolments and would like to sign up, this is open again until 31st May. For eligible staff who have not yet accessed anything and are wishing to self-source training not in the offer, the option to request this has also re-opened, subject to remaining available budget.

  • From Spring 2025 we are now able to re-open the option to request individual claims for eligible members of staff who would like to access training not included in the central offer, and who have not already accessed any training from this year’s budget. To request individual funding please return this form including the details of the individual claiming and the self-sourced training they wish to access. This will be subject to remaining available budget.

REOPENED - Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner NHSE Funding Applications 2025/26

The application process for organisations within North East and Yorkshire to apply for the NHS England support to train advanced practitioners in 2025/26 has now re opened until 30th June 2025.

More information on the offer, including details of the training grant, can be found in the North East and Yorkshire Faculty for Advancing Practice handbook as well as the clinical salary support guidance.

Key Points:

  • The North East & Yorkshire Faculty Handbook contains details about the funding offer from NHS England, employers’ responsibilities/commitments and how to apply. If after reading these you still have questions, please email england.neyadvancedpractice@nhs.net
  • Please note the document is a live document and may have updates added as and when.
  • The deadline to apply is 30th June 2025 (dependent on numbers received)
  • Each organisation applying must nominate a single contact to lead on the Advanced Practitioner process and act as a key liaison for all enquiries relating to Advanced Practitioners. All applications must be approved and submitted by the same lead contact.
  • You will be required to submit a job description and/or job plan for your trainee Advanced Practitioner(s) upon applying, to ensure your application is considered. Please note applications that are not completed in full or do not provide a JD/PS will be returned.

  • We aim to notify your organisation of the outcome within 8 weeks of submitting your full application.

Free Childhood Weight Management Training for Healthcare Professionals in Hull - 30/04/25

Free virtual training on Weight Management for Children & Young People: A practical summary of childhood obesity in Hull

Date: Wednesday 30th April, 1 – 2.30pm

Speaker: Dr Varun Anand, GP with special interest in Lifestyle Medicine

The learning outcomes for the session are:

  1. Understand the wider determinants and inequalities of childhood obesity
  2. Sensitively raise the issue of weight with parents/carers of children and young people living with excess weight
  3. Understand local services to support children and young people living with excess weight
  4. Apply this knowledge in your care of children and young people through brief advice on and appropriate referrals for weight management (Tier 2 and Tier 3)

The training is in collaboration with the Hull City Council Public Health Team and is funded by the ICB.

On the 7th of June we will be hosting our Primary Care Education Symposium at Lazaat Hotel in Cottingham. This event will host multiple consultant speakers, providing talks and presentations across a variety of specialities, aimed at a GP and Primary Care HCP audience.

A full list of consultant speakers and presenters who will be there on the day can be found on our Eventbrite page for the event. As a part of the teachings on offer, consultants will be answering any questions you might have during or after the event.

This is an in-person event and free to attend for all GP, HCP, and Primary Care colleagues. As a part of your attendance, you will receive a CPD certificate with points accrued for the morning. Lunch will be provided for all attendees on the day.

Our latest virtual session on offer, hosted by consultant orthopaedic surgeon Reza Mayahi. Mr Mayahi will be providing information around knees and the treatment of osteoarthritis, knee injections, referral indicators and management advice.

UKHSA webinar: upcoming changes to the routine childhood immunisation schedule (11 June 2025, 14:00 – 15:15)

On Wednesday 11 June 2025, 14:00 – 15:15, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) Immunisation Team will be hosting a webinar to inform you of the significant changes to the routine childhood vaccination schedule and the selective hepatitis B (HepB) programme occurring from July 2025 and January 2026, including the introduction of a new routine vaccination appointment at 18 months of age.

This webinar is aimed at health professionals involved in the commissioning and delivery of childhood immunisations including those working in primary care, screening and immunisation teams, health visiting teams and integrated care boards (ICBs). A full agenda will follow.

SPRINT Events 2025/26

 

Humber and North Yorkshire (HNY) Integrated Care System (ICS) is hosting a series of virtual, interactive Continuing Professional Development (CPD) sessions for the local optometry community.

 

The HNY ICB footprint covers 7 Ophthalmology Trust sites as well as multiple Independent Sector Providers. The Optometry profession are the primary care specialists that refer the majority of referrals either directly or indirectly (via GP) to these sites.

 

As part of the Eye Care Collaboration with Optometry and Ophthalmology we are delivering the sessions to:

  • support and inform the local eyecare workforce
  • foster relationships between local practitioners, Local Optical Committees and secondary care.
  • provide better eyecare for all.

 

Each 1.5hr session will consist of a presentation delivered by a local specialist, followed by time for discussion. The sessions are CPD accredited.

Miss Seema Arora – Consultant Medical Retina Specialist

Hull Royal Infirmary

 

Miss Cook is a Consultant Ophthalmologist with a specialist interest in Medical Retina at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust since 2005. She is also the Clinical Lead for the Humber Diabetic Eye Screening Programme. An Educational Supervisor for Ophthalmology Speciality Trainees she provides educational support to Optometry colleagues undertaking professional qualifications as well as providing educational support to the Diabetic Eye Screening service. Miss Cook completed her Ophthalmology training in London and included a MD from the University of London investigating a novel SLO retinal screening device and a two-year Fellowship in Medical Retina at Moorfields Eye Hospital.

 

Miss Cook’s session will provide an overview of:

  • the features seen in diabetic eye disease on retinal and OCT assessment,
  • the NHS Diabetic Eye Screening programme,
  • the Ophthalmology management of patients with treatable diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular oedema.

 

Miss Seema Arora has been a Consultant Medical Retina Specialist at Hull Royal Infirmary for the last 14 years. Her subspecialty interests are vascular disorders of the retina, and she is interested in education and training, having been lead for laser training and college tutor in the past. Currently she is an Educational and Clinical Supervisor and an examiner for The Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

 

Miss Arora’s session will:

  • support you to understand the relationship between Retina and systemic health,
  • help you to recognise retinal signs of common systemic conditions,
  • support you to recognise the importance of early diagnosis
  • provide an introduction to Oculomics.

Free Unscheduled Bleeding Webinar

 

Here at GatewayC we’re delighted to be working with NHS England to bring primary care staff a free lunchtime learning webinar on unscheduled vaginal bleeding.  

 

This webinar, being held on Wednesday 21 May 2025 12:30-1:15pm, gives all primary care staff the chance to take part in some bite-sized learning and ask questions of the specialist speaker, Dr Helena O’Flynn.  

 

Helena is a GP and Greater Manchester’s Early Diagnosis Lead for Gynaecological Cancers, she is also Deputy Chair of Peaches Womb Cancer Trust charity.   

 

In the webinar she will be discussing postmenopausal bleeding and when it’s a red flag symptom for cancer, the risk factors for endometrial cancer, how to manage bleeding in your patients, what examinations you can carry out on a patient to help determine a diagnosis and when to refer into secondary care. There is also a Q&A opportunity so you can get in any key questions you’ve got.

This webinar is one of the many free resources we have for primary care staff to help diagnose cancer earlier and work towards the NHS’ goal of detecting more cancers in stages 1 and 2 by 2028.   

We have a range of short, interactive courses on a range of cancer types and screening programmes, we also release fortnightly bite-sized reads, called Cancer Keys, on emerging topics, highlighting the latest studies, guidelines, and advancements in cancer care knowledge, providing practical take home messages for you to use in your clinical practice. We have our GP’s Talk Cancer podcast, where hosts Sarah and Rebecca chat to specialists about cancer types, their own practice changes and bring to life to some case studies to see guidance in action. All this is available for free for all primary care staff, simply register for an account with us on our website.

L4 Cyber Apprenticeship - Expression of Interest, Slides & Webinar Recording
