Trailblazer Fellowship Programme

Applications for potential host practices to express their interest for the 2025/6 cohort of the Y&H Post-CCT GP Trailblazer fellowship (to start 3/10/2025) are now open until 5th June 2025.

The investment in primary care set out in the GP Forward View includes funding for post-CCT Fellowships. These are innovative posts available for GPs in their first 5 years after qualification.

The Post-CCT GP Trailblazer fellowship, as a health equity based leadership fellowship is one which ICBs, Trusts, Federations and GP Practices can apply for funding for GP roles that intend to use the programme to help reduce health inequalities.

The funding is available to practices to help meet  the costs of 2 sessions per week of protected study / professional development time (up to £22,567) for a maximum of 12 months. Fellows can apply for a limited budget to support additional training and projects, and to cover travel- this amount is still to be determined. In past years, the combined amount for this has been between £500 and £1250 per fellow.

In Yorkshire and Humber, practices whose populations experience high levels of socioeconomic deprivation or those serving marginalised groups can apply for our innovative and exciting Trailblazer scheme, with a fantastic programme of education and support.

The organisation hosting the fellowship will be expected to advertise the posts, appoint to the posts and meet the cost of employing the trainee for the remaining sessions.

Upcoming Changes to Level 7 Apprenticeship Funding

This week the government announced upcoming changes to Level 7 apprenticeship funding.

From January 2026, Level 7 apprenticeships will no longer be funded for individuals aged 21 and over. This is disappointing news for our sector and will impact apprenticeships like Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) and Senior Leader. You can find the full details here: https://help.apprenticeships.education.gov.uk/hc/en-gb/articles/24002145831954-Changes-to-funding-for-level-7-apprenticeships

Any apprenticeships starting before January 2026 will not be affected and will access the usual funding route via the levy. If you or a member of staff are considering a Lv7 apprenticeship, such as the MSc ACP, we would encourage you to consider enrolling in a cohort starting before Jan 2026.

You can read more about broader apprenticeship initiatives here: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/next-generation-of-builders-and-carers-set-to-rebuild-britain.

You can find useful information and links relating to apprenticeships and current funding routes here: Apprenticeship Information – Training Hub

Shared on behalf of West Yorkshire Training Hub

DPP Support: Support the Future of Prescribing – Become a DPP or Find One Today

Are you a prescriber looking to contribute to the development of prescribing professions?

Becoming a Designated Prescribing Practitioner (DPP) offers a unique opportunity to support the next generation of prescribers while enhancing your own professional development and leadership skills. As the demand for independent prescribers in healthcare grows, so too does the need for experienced DPPs to guide trainees through their prescribing journey.

At the same time, for those preparing to undertake their independent prescribing (IP) training, finding a suitable DPP can be a significant barrier.

That’s where DPP Support comes in.

This NHS England supported directory of DPPs is a dedicated platform designed to:
🔹 Support prescribers interested in becoming DPPs.
🔹 Connect IP trainees with experienced prescribers.
🔹 Promote safe, effective supervision and high-quality prescribing education.

Whether you’re ready to take on the DPP role or seeking a DPP to support your IP training, DPP Support makes it easier to take the next step.

👉 Visit www.dppsupport.co.uk to find out more, access resources, and register your interest.

Together, we can build a stronger, more confident prescribing workforce.

A message from the Deans
Dear colleagues,

Welcome to our eighth update.

It was great to see so many of you at Clinical Pharmacy Congress 2025 on the 9th – 10th May in London.  We were really pleased to deliver a range of talks at the congress, including sessions on post-registration credentialling, empowering pharmacy technicians through PGDs and updates on the implementation of the initial education and training of pharmacists. Thanks as always for your support and positive feedback on these sessions, and all the great Q&A and discussions that came out of them!

We were also delighted to receive formal confirmation from the GPhC of our accreditation for the management of the Foundation Trainee Pharmacist Programme in England. This means that for all trainee pharmacists starting in England from July 2025, we have responsibility for the management of their foundation training and the quality of their training site and experience. We are writing to all trainees and training sites to provide key information to guide them through onboarding and the Foundation Trainee Pharmacist Programme.

Please check the newsletter for news about pharmacy technician training and spread the word as applications are open for NHS England funded independent prescriber training.

With best wishes,

News from the e-Portfolio team
The 2025-26 NHS England Foundation Trainee Pharmacist Programme e-Portfolio will be provided by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) and powered by Axia Digital.

Use of the e-portfolio will be mandatory for all foundation trainee pharmacists and supervisors in England.

NHS England, in collaboration with the RPS, will be hosting three webinars to introduce the e-Portfolio for the 2025-26 foundation training cohort:

·         Tuesday 15th July 2025 – 8-9pm for Designated Supervisors

·         Tuesday 22nd July 2025 – 8-9pm for Foundation Trainee Pharmacists

·         Wednesday 23rd July 2025 – 8-9pm for Designated Prescribing Practitioners

The webinars will provide an overview of how the e-Portfolio directly supports the use of the NHS England FTPP practice-based assessment strategy, demonstrate key functions, and outline the resources and support available during the course of the year.

Click on the relevant link above to register for one of the webinars. Webinars will be recorded and hosted on the RPS website.

New Trainee Support Guide now available
The new version of the Pharmacy Trainee Support Guide for 2025-26 is now available on our website. We hope employers and trainees find this a useful resource both for accessing and  signposting to support.

For new trainees – a link to the guide is here. If you would like to access support during your training, talk to your employer as soon as possible, even before you start training.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your regional pharmacy team. There is a link to request support within the guide (one for each NHS England region) to formally request support from our teams.
