We can now provide confirmation of the 2025/26 CPD funding allocation, in line with the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) confirmation of continuing professional development (CPD) investment for nursing associates, nurses, midwives and allied health professionals (AHPs).

We have collaborated with a wide range of providers and are pleased to launch a CPD Programme for general practice nurses, registered nursing associates and allied health professionals to support the personal professional requirements of our West Yorkshire nursing and AHP workforce. Like previous years, this funding is a one-year settlement and future allocations will be reviewed in line with the Spending Review Process.

For clarity, this funding is an investment solely for CPD and cannot be used for funding backfill or statutory and mandatory training.

This investment will allow access to funding linked to personal professional requirements as well as system and population health priorities. It aims to support the NHS, and support building the skills and expertise of our workforce vital to West Yorkshire services and communities. In line with the policy, eligible NHS employees have access to allocated funding during this period. Employing organisations will be required to ensure in their practical and financial planning that access to the funding is equitable for all eligible staff. For the West Yorkshire PCWTH this relates to General Practices.

The CPD funding will provide an individual development fund for front line clinical professionals to:

  • Equip them with new clinical skills to enhance the care they provide to patients and develop their careers.
  • Support staff in moving between sectors, for example by enabling nurses and AHPs in hospitals to move to new roles in primary care and community care, thus supporting improved primary care access and out of hospital care.
  • Support the maintenance of their continuing professional registration by helping them to meet requirements from their professional regulators.
