NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) is funding a range of training and development opportunities to support Clinical and Professional Development for the Community Optometry workforce. This training opportunity is supported by the West Yorkshire Eyecare Programme and covers the following areas:

  • Professional Certificate in Glaucoma
  • Professional Certificate in Medical Retina
  • Professional Higher Certificate in Glaucoma*
  • Professional Diploma in Glaucoma*
  • Independent Prescribing (IP)*

Courses indicated * require a supervised placement as part of the training; associated placement fees will be covered under this funding offer.

Eligibility

This opportunity is available to Community Optometrists employed by a GOS provider in West Yorkshire and working in that role for over 50% of their NHS work (a contractor reference will be required).

Criteria

  • Applicants should be on the Ophthalmic Performers List for England or be GOC registered.
  • Priority will be given to applicants who have not received financial support from NHS England (NHSE), NHS West Yorkshire ICB and previously Health Education England (HEE) within the last 2 years.
  • Applicants should be able to commit to the associated requirements of their chosen course; where supervision, support or placement is required we will work with Trust Ophthalmic Departments and applicants to identify and secure this. In these circumstances, it may be longer before an applicant receives a final decision however confirmation of funding will include confirmation of the associated placement.

Should funding be oversubscribed then places will be considered based on criteria i.e., applicants in employed roles will be prioritised over locums, or based on the geographic area that applicants work within. The training opportunity will remain open whilst funding is available, rather than having a specific deadline or cut-off date.

Funding

Applicants can select the university and course of their choice. Course fees are capped by the West Yorkshire ICB therefore applicants will be required to meet additional costs above the following (where required, placement fees will be funded in addition to the funding below):

  • Professional Certificate in Glaucoma £450.00
  • Professional Certificate in Medical Retina £890.00
  • Professional Higher Certificate in Glaucoma £1,150.00
  • Professional Diploma in Glaucoma £1,260.00
  • Independent Prescribing (IP) £2,250.00
