Support for Student Nurses and Graduates in Primary Care

Support for student nurses and graduates in primary care

Working in collaboration with students, professional bodies, healthcare and higher education partners, the  Student Hub has been updated.

With enhanced content to support student and newly registered nurses, midwives and nursing associates, the Hub now includes job search tips, interview prep resources and career guidance to help bridge the gap between study and employment.

The update is supporting the graduate guarantee announced by Duncan Burton, NHS England’s Chief Nursing Office, in August. The website provides better support for student learners throughout their journey and more information on roles for graduates in primary care.

Discovering a Career in General Practice Nursing

Nurses looking to start a role in general practice can now undertake a three-month module to gain a better understanding of the role and assist with applications to general practice nursing.

Designed to improve understanding and awareness of general practice, the CNO002 Discovering a Nursing Career in General Practice module is part of a series of training modules endorsed by Chief Nursing Officer for England. It is a national module, providing consistency in learning across the country which is recognised by GPs.

The module is available to nurses and nursing associates at all levels from pre-registration through to registered nurses working in different healthcare settings who want to start a career in general practice.

The three-month module provides an opportunity to gain a better understanding and awareness of primary care and general practice, help nurses and nursing associates to submit a positive application to general practice and help to prepare for interview. It will cover skills and knowledge such as learning how the role fits within the multi-disciplinary team, developing one to one communications skills and understanding how to operate in a primary care environment.

The module is currently being rolled out across the country and will be delivered using a variety of learning techniques from face-to-face learning to virtual reality. It is being delivered through seven universities. Detail of our North East Yorkshire programmes are listed below:
