Funding and Availability

NHSE recently announced upcoming changes to the national fellowship funding, which funds the GP CATALYST programme for newly qualified GPs in our region.

Any GPs in their first year of qualifying, and who will CCT before 31st March 2024 are still eligible to access this. Funding will also continue as per current arrangements for any fellows already enrolled and on the 2-year programme.

For any new GPs not already registered, the deadline for accessing this current funding is 31st March, to secure funding expressions of interest must be submitted by this deadline. The new cohort will likely start in September, and further information will be shared in due course.

Please express interest here before 31st March 2024, to secure funding if you CCT before 31st March:

If you CCT after 31st March and would like to be kept up to date regarding the new funding offer, you can also register your interest on the same link above and we will keep you informed with any updates.

More details on the CATALYST offer can be found below.

Please get in touch on training@haxbygroup.co.uk or CatalystProject@hyms.ac.uk if you have any queries.

Local funding decisions have yet to be made for other HNY fellowship offers in 2024, once anything is confirmed information will be distributed widely.

CATALYST - For Newly Qualified GPs (Register interest now)

Catalyst

A 2-year programme delivered by Hull York Medical School at the University of Hull is available to all GPs within 12 months of qualifying (there are also limited places available for GPs who have qualified within the past 24 months). The programme provides a weekly educational session and will help build the experience, skills and confidence that will support future careers in primary care medicine. A bursary is available to support release for 1 session per week.

Educational sessions are currently on Wednesdays, one full day every two weeks (averaging 1 session per week). The 2023/24 Cohort began in September 2023, it is anticipated that the next Cohort will begin in September 2024.

Enhanced - For Newly Qualified GPs (Currently closed)

Enhanced Offer

A 2-year programme delivered by the HNY Primary Care Workforce & Training Hub. This programme offers a supported introduction to life as a qualified GP and is available to GPs that have qualified within the past 24 months. The enhanced offer would involve a weekly fellowship session and is available alongside Catalyst. The focus of the fellowship time can be planned to suit the GPs interest, for example, education, teaching and training, research, leadership, specialist clinical placements or project work. Each fellow will be assigned a Fellowship Facilitator available for guidance, and meet in small group sessions approximately every two months.

Funding to support this element of the programme is primarily targeted at practices that have been identified as being within under doctored areas across the Humber and North Yorkshire region (Hull, North East Lincolnshire, Withernsea, Bridlington, Hornsea and Scarborough). A bursary is available to support release for 1 session per week.

The Enhanced offer is a locally funded HNY initiative aimed at supporting recruitment in the hardest to recruit to areas.
