Course information

This course is suitable for any Health Care Professional who is involved in the diagnosis and management of atrial fibrillation.

The course covers epidemiology, pathophysiology, risk factors and diagnosis. The management of symptoms along with the importance of stroke risk reduction in people diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, through appropriate use of anticoagulation.

Course content

Units will include:
• AF – what is it and why does it matter?
• Risk factors, signs and symptoms
• Diagnosing atrial fibrillation
• Managing symptom
• Assessing stroke and bleeding risk
• Anticoagulation – warfarin and DOACs
• Carrying out a holistic review

By the end of this course, learners should be able to:

• Recognise key risk factors for atrial fibrillation
• Evaluate the diagnostic pathway recommended by national and international guidelines
• Implement management strategies aimed at reducing stroke risk and symptom burden
• Carry out a holistic review of an individual who is being treated for atrial fibrillation
