In order to supervise and assess students on placement, you must be suitably prepared for the role. If you have previously undertaken ‘Mentor’ training then you can complete a short ‘Transition’ course to prepare you for the new NMC Standards for Supervision and Assessment (2019.) If you have not previously done Mentor training, you will need to undertake Practice Supervisor and Practice Assessor training.
A set of online training materials for Practice Educators is now available via eLearning for health and can be accessed at the link below. On completion, you will be able to generate and download a certificate of completion for Revalidation purposes. You can also send a copy of this certificate to your local Training Hub to enable them to register you with a PebblePad account.

Training for Practice Educators
The eLearning for health Practice Educator & Assessor Programme (PEAP) aligns to the NMC standards for student supervision and assessment.
NMC registrants should complete units 1-6 in order to meet the requirements to be a Practice Supervisor. Units 7 & 8 should be completed in order to meet practice assessor requirements.
Each unit takes approximately 1 hour to complete. A Practice Assessor certificate will be awarded after the completion of all 8 units and this can be used for Revalidation purposes.
Incentive funding for new Practice Educators
The SY Training Hub aims to increase the numbers of new practice educators across the region and has limited incentive funding to support with training. To be eligible for this (currently £250 per nurse, paid via the practice) nurses must complete the ELFH Practice Educator & Assessor Programme units 1-8 and send evidence of completion to the Training Hub.

Practice Educator Update
You are advised to watch a Practice Educator Update from your local University on completion of your training, to ensure that you are fully prepared for the individual requirements of their course.
An online SHU Practice Educator Update is available – see link below. This counts towards Revalidation and a certificate is available from the Training Hub to evidence this if required, please contact us.
