We are proud to announce that the South Yorkshire Primary Care Workforce and Training Hub won the Dame Elizabeth Anionwu Award for Inclusivity in Nursing and Midwifery at the Nursing Times Awards 2025.

This award is recognition of the fantastic ReSTORE Refugee Nursing Programme. This nurse-led initiative is transforming lives by supporting refugee nurses to re-enter the NHS, regain their professional identity and build economic independence.

The ReSTORE programme was also nominated for the Patient Safety Improvement award.

Judges commended the programme’s trauma-informed, structured approach, highlighting its impressive outcomes, including successful exam passes, professional registrations and national influence. They noted that the programme’s positive impact on a frequently overlooked population is both powerful and unmistakable.

ReSTORE also exemplifies how lived experience of displacement can become a force for change, enabling refugee nurses to support and uplift one another. By championing equity, collaboration and culturally competent care, the programme is not only strengthening workforce diversity but, as the judges said, helping to restore faith in humanity.
